PP kritiserar skarpt USAs censurförslag

Idag slocknar hundratals stora webbsajter i USA i protest mot ett planerat lagförslag, SOPA, som återinför officiell censur. Lagförslaget drivs på av upphovsrättsindustrin.

- Det står helt klart att upphovsrättsindustrin inte skyr några medel i sin jakt på fildelare, säger Anna Troberg, partiledare för Piratpartiet. Därför är det viktigt att lagstiftarna tar sitt ansvar och sätter tydliga gränser för dem. Det är inte rimligt att en industri av rent egenintresse ska få montera ner de grundläggande rättigheter som människor kämpat i århundraden för att få.

Lagförslaget SOPA avskaffar både rättssäkerhet och oskuldspresumtion. Enligt förslaget räcker det med att någon i upphovsrättsindustrin anser att en sajt bryter deras monopol, för att de ska kunna stänga av sajten från nätet och strypa alla deras intäkter. En länk på sajten som är postad av en användare är tillräckligt.

- Det här pekar på orimligheten i alla former av mellanhandsansvar, säger Troberg. När man gör mellanhänder som internetleverantörer, Visa och MasterCard ansvariga för vad deras kunder gör, så leder det ofelbart till en form av indirekt censur utan tillstymmelse till rättssäkerhet. Det är upprörande att upphovsrättsindustrin tar sig sådana friheter på samhällets bekostnad.

I Europa väntas raka motsatsen hända i ett domstolsutslag snart. EU-domstolens generaladvokat har givit ett förhandsbesked i fallet Scarlet Extended mot Sabam, där han säger att Internet aldrig får filtreras, och särskilt inte av upphovsrättsskäl.

- Men ett domstolsutslag är en sak. SOPA kan komma att ändra hur domstolarna arbetar, säger Troberg. SOPA skulle i ett slag göra om Internet till den enkelriktade underhållningskanal som Hollywood så länge har försökt få till, medan det interaktiva nät vi har i dag skulle bli ett minne blott.

Swedish Pirate Party criticizes America’s censorship proposal.

Today hundreds of great Web sites in the United States shut down in protest against the proposed bills, SOPA and PIPA, which restores official censorship. The bills are driven by the copyright industry.

– It is quite clear that the copyright industry will stop at nothing in its pursuit of file sharers, says Anna Troberg, leader of the Swedish Pirate Party. It is therefore important that lawmakers take their responsibilities and set clear boundaries for them. It is not reasonable that an industry of pure self-interest are allowed to dismantle the fundamental rights that people have fought for centuries to get.
