PRESS RELEASE: IFPI demands illegal action from the Swedish Government

From the statement:

”It is absolutely essential that the individuals and companies responsible for Pirate Bay be called to account by the Swedish authorities without any delay. We urge you to do everything possible to make this happen.”

The laws in Sweden do not, under any circumstances, allow a minister to intervene in specific court cases, like these lobbyists demand. The letter provides a both frightening and humorous glimpse into the industry’s strategy and lack of knowledge.

”In Sweden, we do not expect foreign lobby organisations to pressure ministers into controlling the courts”, says Rick Falkvinge, leader of the Swedish Pirate Party. ”The judicial system in Sweden is independent from political power. That is a system we intend to keep, thank you very much.”

The MPAA has already taken credit for instigating the infamous raid against The Pirate Bay in May, 2006, stating that the raid was a direct result of a successful cooperation with the Swedish Government. The Swedish minister of Justice at the time, Thomas Bodström, got into trouble over this. He later vehemently refuted the allegation of giving an illegal order to the judicial representatives.

Six months prior to the raid, the public prosecutor had considered pursuing The Pirate Bay with legal action, but noted in a public memo that this would be very difficult as the TPB operators do not themselves infringe on any copyrights. Should there be any bearing to the American interest organisations’ claims, it is an outrage and a scandal that would even overshadow the scandal that The Pirate Bay was raided.

The Pirate Bay provides no more illegal files than any other search engine, like Google.

Good point. Gjort småfixar… peka gärna ut ifall det var något jag missade.

Ursäkta att jag gnäller, Jag tycker det är utmärkt med en internationell pressrelease, men grammatiken och stavningen här är faktiskt riktigt usel.
